First Day of School?
Saturday, March 25, 2006
It was the first day of school after term break. I scrambled out of my bed, only to be horrified by the time on my clock. Yes, I was late in waking up as usual, but today was especially late, not a very good idea for a first day of school! I grabbed my bag hastily and rushed to school. Drowned in lethargy, I was evidently still half-asleep, but the better half of my consciousness managed to drag my body to school.
On arrival in school, I realised that I wasn't as late as I'd thought I was. Given the level of alertness I was at, coming to such a conclusion was quite a feat. I went up to the second floor hall for the morning assembly seeing the school population grossly lacking in numbers, so I inferred that since most of the school population can't possible be late like me, I must be early. At no point in time did I think of looking at my watch. No wait.. I had no watch! But then again, I didn't even check my handphone for the time. Why couldn't I even think clearly? Why was I so lethargic?
Earlier in the morning on my way to school, I met Bjorn sitting on a concrete slab outside the mrt station and reading his notes. Quizzical, I asked what he was doing there. He replied he was waiting for someone, and after asking him whether he wanted to accompany me to school instead, he insisted he was waiting for his friend. Curiously, a fleeting thought formed in my mind that he was most probably meeting his new girlfriend or potential girlfriend. Well, some of those thought processes that passes through the intricate workings of my brain can really be strange. The inference that he was meeting his girlfriend, based only on the fact that he was waiting for someone, wasn't even logically sound. I had the excuse that I was still half-asleep though, so any thought processes during that time may not be as logically sound. I didn't think twice of my fleeting thought, and I carried on my way to school without Bjorn.
I remembered that I met Allton on my way up to the hall, but it was a brief exchange of "hi"s. In the hall, I saw Yishi there. Naturally, I was puzzled, for she was consistently later than me, and today, she was earlier than most of the rest of the school population. Wang Fei was busily preoccupied with doing up her hair and looking at her face in the mirror, so she didn't notice I had arrived. Others such as Byron, Vagheesh, Minghui and Jiamin were there, quietly waiting for the morning assembly to commence. Strangely, Caifong and Yaosheng weren't around.
Upon sitting down, from behind of me came Jack pouncing on me. Justin soon came over too. It took me more than a few split seconds to realise that the person on top of me was indeed Jack. Jack pointed to my bag and quipped, "nice bag!" This was followed by his signature mischievous laughter. Looking at my bag, I realised that I had brought the wrong bag!!
"Argh!!! I was half-asleep and I just grabbed the nearest bag!" I said in exasperation, already thinking of ways to fabricate excuses to salvage my pride and save myself from further embarrassment.
"Sure it's not your new bag you've bought?" Jack probed further.
"Well, if it's a bag that's totally red, totally yellow, or totally green, I might still buy it, but if it's a bag that is red, yellow AND green, with some stupid smiley face on the front of the bag, it's definitely not mine!"
Looking at my bag, I realised how corny I must look like. The bag had patches of bright red, bright yellow, and bright green, stitched together in a most distasteful manner. And to top it all, the bag had to have pictures of lame cartoons on its front. I seriously suspected that even a Kindergarten kid would dismiss that bag design as too childish. Oh NO!!! What a mega-disaster this was!
At this moment, I was jerked out of my sleep, and I find myself on my bed, and not in the school hall. What a relief! It was only a dream, and I was glad that the embarrassing incident wasn't real.
As I got out of my bed, I thought to myself what an embarrassment it would be if that really happened. Picture Wang Fei laughing at my corny bag even many months after that incident! My face would cringe from the sheer overwhelming embarrassment each time she mentions it. And I know she will mention it many times!
Next, while pondering on whether I wanted to tell my embarrassing dream to Jack and the rest, I was suddenly jolted to my senses. I had already GRADUATED from school! That incident will never happen, and I would not meet all my classmates. I would not see Wang Fei doing her hair and tending to her face. I would not see Yishi going to school early for once. HAHA! I would not experience the heart-warming laughter from Jack and gang, something that always filled the classroom. I was already out of JC!! And besides, Bjorn wasn't even from my JC.
It felt just like yesterday that I was still back in JC. Gosh, I am SO OLD!!!!!!

Finally Up!
Hmmm... After working on this blog for many days, I'm kinda proud that it's mostly done. I especially love the Glimpses page and the buttons I've created. After all, it's coz of this blog that i went to learn html and javascript. This blog was essentially done from scratch, using only notepad!!! (erm... and Internet Explorer also, to check that my blog looked like what I wanted it to be) Ok lah, credit must go to the original blogskin that I heavily modified from (
http://www.blogskins.com/apply.php?sid=71576&action=Preview). I actually intended to add a games page to feature a little simple game that I've programmed (and to think I know nuts about programming and html just a mere one plus week ago), but well.. it's still not done yet. Maybe 1 week from now, it'll be up? Haha.. I dunno..
Anyway, this blog shall now be my public blog so that I can keep in contact with all my friends. I'll try to update you people of anything that's happening in my life ok? Of course, this blog will soon include all my rants and my theories of life.. muahahaha!!! To lawyer (I'm not referring to lawyers in general.. I have nothing against lawyers, so please dun sue me. I'm referring to a friend whom I call lawyer): No I shall not mention that I have a friend whose hairstyle sux! Ok, you know it!! (Yah lawyer, go ahead SUE ME!!! HAHA!!)
Oh yah, all my rants, if they ever do sound immature, incoherent, stupid, or any other negative things, you are probably hallucinating, and this blog actually does not exist. So don't form negative impressions of me base on this blog, or I'd recommend you to go visit a doctor. Of course, if you want to compliment me, go ahead... hahahahaha.. (I'm just so thick-skinned lor.. ok whatever..)
Well.. welcome to my blog! Enjoy your stay here.

Officially ORDed!!!
Tuesday, March 14, 2006
I guess I had been too preoccupied with designing my blog that I've procrastinated far too much and delayed blogging entries. Well, it has only been about 12 days since I came back from Thailand, yet there was a whirl of events happening in my life for the past few days, and I guess the phrase "living life to the fullest" succintly describes everything now.
The JC Math Olympiad trainings (MOT) ignited a few of my passions alive. For I love maths, and I love teaching, and MOT combines the best of both worlds. Teaching a bunch of highly-motivated, proactive NJC students brightened up my day yesterday, and like I told Lawyer, they were a joy to teach. Haha! Teaching a whole lecture-hall size of RJC students was a completely different experience, and was perhaps closer to how being a lecturer would be like, but I just LOVE the challenge of trying to get the attention of all of them and making sure they understood what I taught. And yes, as ORD personnel, finding a job will top the list of things-to-do for many of us, and I must admit I'm fortunate to be able to get such a job that I truly love. Yes, the pay may sound impressive, but the working hours are few and I end up getting only about $300 to $500 a month (after all, I teach only a few hours a week). Yes, Lip En pointed out that I have a lot of free time to find other part-time jobs. Yet for the past few days, I find myself investing a significant amount of time into MOT, for this JCMOT is a 'business' after all, and I still need to negotiate and communicate with the teachers-in-charge of both schools, coordinate the lesson plan, such as who does what, set the notes (I feel as if I'm writing a textbook at times), and ultimately prepare and teach the lessons. This is on top of the National Team training I'm teaching, and the vast difference in standard between these two math olympiad trainings mean more time needed for sourcing problems.
Needless to say, free from the shackles of SAF, I've been going out and celebrating my newly-acquired status as a proud graduate of the Civilian Conversion Course. Surprisingly, when I went back to camp to collect my pink IC last Friday, I did not exactly feel the exuburance I expected when I first got hold of my IC. The realisation of freedom took quite a while to sink in, and it was only on my way home that I find myself happier than usual, and possibly even grinning like an idiot (HAHA!). And it was only then that I really felt like shouting "ORD LOH!" and be immersed in the full meaning of it.
I'm happy not just because I've just ORDed. I'm happy because I suddenly have the freedom to do anything I want, and I'm utilising all my free time for something meaningful. I'm happy because the past 2 plus years bore witness to many strong friendship bonds forged, as well as a fruitful and unique experience that I've never imagined before I enlisted. Thank you Terry for your heart-warming experience at your Birthday Chalet party. Thank you 5SIR Scout Platoon for making my whole army experience such a memorable one. Thank you Jesher for being so generous to treat us to Yakun Kaya Toast. And last but not least, thank you dear Section 1 for all the fun we had not only during our BMT days, but also today at Settler's Cafe. The past 2 plus years during NS was a magical journey for me. There were the fair share of ups and downs, both within camp and out of camp, and I must say I've emerged from NS a better person. If given a choice to choose my NS experience, I wouldn't want to have it any other way. Gone are the days I punished the men and made them do push-ups. Gone are the days we climbed countless hills, swim across rivers, have swamp walks (yuck! yuck! A million times yuck! I NEVER wanna get INTO a swamp again in my life), and cross tens of kilometres to reach our destinations. Gone are the days when we would slack in bunk, bitch about each other, and rape Lawyer. (Or are they really gone? How about reservist? Hmmm...)
I'm happy and satisfied with life. I have total control over my life and what I want to do. And I embrace my new phase in life with open arms. I'm living life to the fullest right now, and I'm loving it!!!
